Mango
The Mango
The mango is one of the world’s most popular tropical fruits, loved for its sweet, juicy taste and vibrant aroma. Its golden-yellow flesh is smooth, fiber-free in many varieties, and bursting with natural sweetness. The outer skin varies in color—from green to shades of red, yellow, or orange—depending on the variety and ripeness stage.
- Availability
Mangoes are available nearly year-round, with peak seasons depending on the producing country.
- Storage Guidelines
Transport & Storage: Mangoes should be transported and stored at 10–13˚C to maintain quality and extend shelf life.
In Store: Mangoes are best displayed on the regular fresh produce shelves. Keep them away from cold storage, as low temperatures can damage the fruit.
- Planting and Harvest
At the orchard
Mango trees thrive in tropical climates and can grow up to 30 metres tall. They begin bearing fruit after 3–5 years and can remain productive for several decades.
The fruit develops after the mango flowers are pollinated. Depending on the variety, mangoes take around 3–5 months to reach full maturity. Growers monitor size, shape, and color changes to determine the right harvesting time.
Mangoes are carefully hand-picked to prevent bruising. After harvest, they are sorted by size and quality, then packed in boxes (commonly 4–10 kg) for shipment.
