Sliced Banana Shoot
Sliced Banana Flower
Sliced banana flower, is the edible inner portion of the banana blossom, widely used in Southeast Asian cuisine. The small, tender slices have a slightly crunchy texture and a mildly astringent flavor. They are commonly used in salads, soups, stir-fries, and traditional dishes.
- Availability
Banana flowers can be harvested year-round in tropical regions, with peak availability during the main banana-growing seasons.
- Storage Guidelines
Transport & Storage: Sliced banana flowers should be stored at 7–10˚C with high humidity to maintain freshness and prevent discoloration or wilting.
In Store: Best displayed in refrigerated sections or cool, humid areas to preserve texture and color.
- Planting and Harvest
At the farm
Banana flowers grow on mature banana plants. The blossoms are harvested when they are young and tender. Careful cutting ensures that the flowers remain intact and suitable for culinary use.
After harvesting, the banana flowers are cleaned, sliced into small pieces, and sorted for quality. They are then packed in cartons or trays, typically 3–5 kg, ready for distribution and sale.
